The groom’s speech can be a challenge simply because
many grooms aren’t comfortable speaking in front of large audiences. That, on
top of the excitement of being married and having had a few drinks can often
times create a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, as the groom you can prepare a
speech that is short and sweet and control your alcohol intake until afterwards.
The party will last all night long so don’t worry about missing out before the
toasts!
When it comes to writing the groom’s speech there are several things you will
want to keep in mind. First of all, you want to thank the groomsmen and the
bridesmaids for being part of your special day. It costs a lot of money to be
part of someone’s wedding party and because of this you will want to make sure
they know how much you appreciate them.
Next, you need to address your parents, the guests, the in-laws, and last but
not least your new bride. This is the moment to make her fall in love with you
all over again and just a few special words are all she needs to hear to know
that she made the right decision in marrying you and that you really are the man
of her dreams!
Writing your wedding speech may be something you put off until the very end
until there is no time left. And while under pressure some great speeches have
been written it really is a better idea to take your time and write the speech
in as much advance of the wedding as possible. When you have a base to work with
then you can make changes as you go along.
A good rule of thumb is to create your first draft a month before the wedding
and then every weekend read over the speech, make changes, and practice it a few
times. By the time the wedding rolls around you will be a pro and have a great
stress-free wedding speech!
Most men aren’t very sappy, but wedding speeches require just a little. So, sit
down and think of a defining moment in your relationship with your new bride
that wowed you. It could be the moment you first saw her or the moment you
decided to ask her to marry you. Come up with something romantic, sweet, and
sappy, and the guests, and most importantly your new bride, will melt!
Groom's wedding speech example
"Hello. I would like to
start off by thanking you all for joining me and my new wife on our special
day. It was the day I had always dreamed of and now it is a reality. I am such
a lucky man to have found such a wonderful woman to love me and care for me for
the rest of my life. Thank you, _______ I love you. I am honored so many of you
choose to spend your evening with us and it really does mean the world to us
that you support and love us as much as you do. Thank you!"
