The sister of the bride is not required to give a speech, unless she is the maid
of honor. However, many sisters do choose to give speeches because they are so
happy for their sisters on their big day. If you choose to give a speech on your
sister’s wedding day then follow the steps below.
Writing the Speech
When you write a wedding toast you will want to make it brief. This is
especially the case if many other people have given or will give toasts, too.
The couple likes this moment but they, and the guests, want to get back to
partying so make your toast short and sweet.
The best way to get started is by taking some free time and simply starting
to write. It will take you some time to figure out what you want to say and how
you want to say it so don’t wait until the night before the wedding. Instead,
give yourself at least a few days and preferably a few weeks or months before
the wedding rolls around.
If you are having a hard time coming up with something to say or coming up
with a joke then read more about

Delivering the Speech
When it is time to give the speech you want to stand up and introduce
yourself. Then, go into your speech speaking slowly and looking around the room.
Say what you want to say and then raise your glass and give the toast. If you
can toast your sister and her new husband in less than a minute then everyone
will understand what you say and be grateful that you kept it short!
Remember, too, that you don’t want to use note cards. You will not seem as
sincere, even if you are, and you will be more nervous about reading what you
wrote and making eye contact that it just won’t come off very well. So, make
sure you take the time to memorize the speech. It really is worthwhile!
Sample Sister of the Bride Speech
"Today on
your wedding day ______ I want to raise my glass to you for being the example a
sister always dreams of. I want to thank you for always being there for me in
the good times and the bad and I want you to know that I am so happy for you and
_______. May today’s happiness continue with you for all the days of your lives.
I wish you the best! To the bride and groom!"
As the sister of the bride you want to make a good impression, but you don’t
want to ramble on forever. Come up with something sweet to say and then stand up
and say it. It will mean a lot to the bride and it will be short and sweet, too!
